PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Standby power is indispensable for many kinds of operations. Lengthy or recurring power outages result in financial loss, inconvenience or worse. Often, the investment in a standby generator set is recouped at the first significant outage.

Generac's broad product line offers a full range of models for all kinds of applications, in both diesel and gaseous fuel options.

Power generation equipment is built to exacting requirements. By its very nature, it must be safe, reliable and capable of routinely handling heavy electrical loads upon demand. That means uncompromising attention to close tolerances and exacting details, requiring manufacturing expertise and quality assurance at every step of the process.

The heart of every Generac genset is its engine and alternator. For our prime movers, we select top engine designs from around the world that are ideally suited to electrical power generation and modify them to Generac specifications. Starting with each long block engine, we add Generac-designed fuel delivery, cooling, and exhaust systems. Depending upon size, 98% of our alternators feature Generac manufactured rotors and stators. As an extra measure of safety and confidence, most Generac products are UL Listed by Underwriters Laboratories.

Standard Features for Diesel and Gaseous units:

  • Generac manufactured alternator (under 400 kW) — We wind our own rotors and stators to ensure top quality

  • Automatic shutdown protection system — Light and sound alarms are backed up by an automatic system that stops the generator for a variety of mechanical or safety reasons

  • Solid state sensing and starting controls — Our well-proven control system ensures reliability and durability

  • Permanent magnet excitation (optional at 125 kW and below) — Provides better response time and better performance for non-linear (UPS) loads, and is standard in gensets above 125 kW

  • Factory warranted custom packaging — Generac builds its own enclosures in standard or sound attenuated versions with a durable, powder paint finish - not every manufacturer does

Research, Development & Testing

Our numerous research and development programs are all aimed at bringing improved products to market. In order to stay on top, we focus on and apply new technologies to increase power, efficiency and reliability.

To ensure that our equipment lives up to the Generac reputation for durability, we subject our engines, alternators, controls, and transfer switches to punishing test routines. Only after we’re certain they’re up to the task do they become a part of our product line, where long life is a hallmark of our commitment to lasting quality.

New systems are subjected to rigorous product performance tests, as well as extensive alpha and beta site testing. Our extensive test agendas allow you to choose a Generac power system with the confidence that every system will provide you with the power you need, for years to come.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Generac manufactures a complete line of residential / light commercial standby generators that can be installed during new construction or retrofitted into existing homes and businesses. These systems range from 7 to 40 kilowatts of output, in both air- and liquid-cooled models. All models are factory-built for natural gas operation and can be easily reconfigured for liquid propane (LP gas) operation.

Residential / light commercial power systems are permanently installed outside, similar to an air-conditioning unit. They work with a matched UL Listed automatic transfer switch that responds within seconds when utility power is lost down, supplying electrical power to all pre-selected lights, appliances and equipment. Automatically!

Our air-cooled systems are available in 7, 12 and 15 kilowatt models. The liquid-cooled residential standby power generators are available in 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 kW models.

These systems include:

Standard Weather Protective Enclosure – Protects the generator from harmful weather and reduces exterior noise levels. Keyed locks provide security.

Choice of Fully Automatic Transfer Switches –

  1. UL Listed, remote-mounted 100 or 200 amp automatic switch options (depending on model)

  2. UL Listed, remote-mounted automatic transfer switch with 8 or 12 circuit emergency load center (air-cooled models only)

Built-in Battery Charger - Maintains battery at optimum performance level.

Automatic Safety Shutdown - Protects the engine and generator in the event of low oil pressure, high temperature, overspeed and / or overcrank.

Automatic Seven-day Exerciser - Runs the system weekly to maintain top running condition.

Natural Gas or Liquid Propane Operation – Factory-built for natural gas operation. Can be easily reconfigured for LP gas operation.

Flexible Fuel Line – For connection from rigid pipe to the generator fuel inlet.

Durable, High Strength Composite Mounting Pad (air-cooled models only) – Eliminates the need to pour a concrete mounting pad to support the generator.

UL2200 Listed

EPA / CARB (California Air Resource Board) Certified, where applicable

100% Factory Performance Tested

When an outage persists for more than a few hours, it becomes far more than just a nuisance. Lengthy power failures can be costly in terms of inconvenience and extra expenses. That’s why savvy home and business owners know that having a standby power system is a proven way to guard against power interruptions, and a wise investment to make before they experience problems.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Automatic Transfer Switches are an integral part of the power generation process, allowing smooth and immediate transfer of electrical current between multiple sources and the load. When the generator is operating, the transfer switch prevents dangerous feedback of current to the utility’s system. It also ensures that different power sources are fully synchronized before their power is combined or loads are transferred, which is imperative for safe operation.

The transfer switch senses when utility power is interrupted, and starts up the generator if the utility power remains absent. In about five to ten seconds, when the generator is producing full power, the transfer switch disconnects the load from the utility and connects it to the generator, restoring electricity to the load. The transfer switch continues to monitor utility power, and when it is restored, switches the load from the generator back to the utility. Once the generator is disconnected, it goes through a cool-down routine and is automatically shut down.

Generac manufactures several types of transfer switches. Each kind operates in a different way, depending upon the requirements of the overall system, and how the load is transferred between the different power sources. Transfer switch types include open transition, momentary closed transition, and bypass isolation

Generac's automatic transfer switches are designed to be simple to monitor, operate and maintain. All controls needed for daily use are conveniently located on the front door, where bright lamps indicate the switch position. All components are front adjustable and front removable for optimum serviceability. As an extra measure of safety and quality, Generac's transfer switches are UL Listed by Underwriters Laboratories for use in emergency power systems. They are also CSA certified by the Canadian Standards Association.

Generac's expertise in the design and manufacture of automatic transfer switches (ATS) is considerable. The company has produced its own fully instrumented 100 to 2600 amp switches since 1983.

Open transition transfer switches are the simplest kind, and are mechanically interlocked. They disconnect the load from one power source before making the connection to the other.

Generac's closed transition transfer switches (CTTS) eliminate momentary power interruption when both sources are present and synchronized, by transferring the loads with an overlapping contact arrangement. The momentary closed transition switch transfers the power within one hundred milliseconds, which does not require utility protective relaying.

The soft load closed transition switch extends the overlap time to multiple seconds, for a smoother transition of load to the generator. These switches are available in 100 to 2600 amp configurations.

There are many critical systems where interruption of power is not permitted, such as data transmission and hospital care. For those requirements, Generac offers its bypass isolation switch (BIS), which is designed to meet the National Electrical Code's requirements for the inspection and/or maintenance of the automatic transfer switch without the need to interrupt or cut power.

Generac transfer switches are carefully constructed and tested to assure superior performance. By combining them with our own generators, we're able to offer a complete power generation package that we support and warrant.
